Mariah Carey's vocal range
Mariah Carey sings from F2 up to G7, a span of 62 semitones, or about 5 octaves. None of the sources we used names a voice type, so we haven't given one.
About those notes: Her G7 is a whistle-register note, the very top of the voice, well above anything she sings in full voice. Billboard notes she says her whistle register can come and go when she's stressed.
What Mariah Carey's voice is like
Classic FM put Mariah Carey's range, F2 to G7, at the top of its comparison of famous singers' voices. Her trademark is the whistle register, a thin, flute-like sound far above where most voices stop. In the 2014 Concert Hotels chart of recorded range, her G7 was the highest note of any singer on the list, and she ranked second overall behind Axl Rose. That chart put her lowest recorded note on "Sweetheart" and her highest on "Emotions". She has said that her whistle notes depend on how relaxed she is, so even she can't summon them on demand.
