How to use the random karaoke song generator
Hit Spin and you'll get one song from the 500 in our karaoke guides, with its difficulty, length, vocal range when we have it, and a line on why it works at karaoke. Don't love it? Hit Spin again. It won't repeat a song until it runs out of new ones.
Want to narrow it down first? Set a decade if you're in an 80s mood, pick a genre or list like country, Disney or K-pop, or set difficulty to Easy if you're nervous. Tick Under 3 minutes when the sign-up list is long and you want to keep things moving. The count above the button tells you how many songs are left in the hat.
Singing with someone? Spin your own song, then hit Lock and spin a duet partner. Your song stays put and the generator adds a duet or group song for you and a friend to do next, matched to your decade and difficulty when it can. Or tick Duets & group songs before you spin to only get songs made for more than one voice.
Play karaoke roulette
Karaoke roulette is the easiest way to get a quiet room going. Nobody picks their own song. Each person spins, and whatever comes up is what they sing. Some house rules that keep it fun:
- One free re-spin each. If you've truly never heard the song, spin again. Use it wisely.
- Pick the filters as a group. A 90s-only round or an Easy-only round keeps it fair for the people who don't sing much.
- Duet rounds. Pair people up, spin one song and lock in a duet partner. Two near-strangers belting a love duet is the whole point.
- Lead with the crowd-pleasers. Spin a few first and save the Hard results for whoever's warmed up.
It works just as well at a karaoke night at a bar as it does at a party at home. Put the page up on a phone, pass it around and let the hat decide.
How to choose a song for your voice
A random pick is a great way to break a tie, but the song that goes best is one that sits in your voice. If you don't know your range, take the free vocal range test. It saves your range in this browser, and then the Fits my range filter here only spins songs whose sheet music sits inside it.
A song a little too high or low is often still fine. Most karaoke systems can change the key, so ask the KJ to move it down a step or two. Songs marked Easy usually have a narrow range and a melody that forgives a shaky note, which makes them the safest spin for a first song of the night.
Where the songs come from
Every song in the hat comes from one of our karaoke song guides, and each one has a write-up on why it works. Ranges come from published sheet music; 208 songs have one so far, and we never guess the rest. Want to browse instead of spin? The full karaoke song list has every song in one searchable table, and our best karaoke songs guide has the picks that work almost anywhere.
