Axl Rose's vocal range
Axl Rose sings from F1 up to Bb6, a span of 65 semitones, or about 5.5 octaves. None of the sources we used names a voice type, so we haven't given one.
About those notes: These notes come from the 2014 Concert Hotels chart, which measured the lowest and highest notes on studio recordings and was compiled from fan-collected data. The F1 is on "There Was a Time" and the B-flat 6 on his cover of "Ain't It Fun". It's recorded range, not his everyday singing zone.
Where sources disagree: A revised 2014 ranking from Vintage Vinyl News added more singers and moved him to fourth place, but kept his five-octave range.
What Axl Rose's voice is like
Axl Rose topped the 2014 Concert Hotels chart of recorded vocal range, ahead of Mariah Carey and Prince. His lowest charted note, an F1 on "There Was a Time" from Chinese Democracy, was the lowest note on the whole chart. At the other end, his highest charted note came on his cover of "Ain't It Fun" from The Spaghetti Incident?. Most fans know him for the opposite end of the voice, the high, raspy wail of the early Guns N' Roses records. He told Spin he was flattered by the ranking and named Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson among singers he enjoys.
