Best Karaoke Machines for Home: 13 Picks for Parties, TVs & Kids

October 5, 2026 · 12 min read

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. How that works

A karaoke machine used to mean a box with a CD tray and a tiny screen. Now the songs come from an app, the lyrics go on your TV or your phone, and the machine's real job is to be a good speaker with good mics. Here's how to pick one for the way your house actually sings.

The first question isn't price. It's where the lyrics come from: a screen built into the machine, your TV, or the phone in your hand. I've sorted the picks by that, with a best overall, a portable one for outside, three for kids and two cheap ones. The buying guide at the end covers Wi-Fi, subscriptions and the Bluetooth delay nobody warns you about.

How I picked

I haven't tested these machines myself. The picks come from manufacturer spec pages, retailer listings and reviews by people who did test them, plus a long-running r/karaoke thread, checked in October 2026. Where sources disagree, I say so.

01

Best Overall for House Parties

Best overall

Tonor K20

Premium
Check price on Amazon

Forbes Vetted's overall pick is a big Bluetooth PA speaker with two wireless mics, a 7000 mAh battery Tonor rates at 12 hours, and 250 watts peak. It has no screen. Instead there's a holder on top for a tablet or phone, which shows the lyrics from whatever karaoke app or YouTube channel you like.

That's the reason it's my pick for most houses. There's no subscription and no software to go out of date. The mics run on AA batteries, so keep a spare pack in the drawer.

02

Best Portable Machine for Outdoors

Best portable

JBL PartyBox Encore 2 (with 2 mics)

Premium
Check price at JBL

For the backyard, the beach or a tailgate, this is the JBL party speaker sold as a bundle with two wireless mics. JBL rates it at 15 hours of battery and IPX4 splash resistance, so a spilled drink isn't the end of the night. Like the Tonor, the lyrics come from your phone. u/DavidO_Pgh, who has reviewed both the earlier Encore and the Ikarao Shell S1 on r/karaoke, sums up the trade-off: the Encore suits you if what you want is a Bluetooth speaker with mics added on, rather than a full karaoke machine.

Amazon carries the Encore Essential 2 with mics, which is a different speaker, so I've linked to JBL for the one I'd actually pick. If you go with another PartyBox, my karaoke microphone guide covers which JBL mics work with which speakers.

03

Best With a Built-In Lyrics Screen

Best built-in screen

Ikarao Shell S1

Premium
Check price on Amazon

If you want one box that does everything, the Ikarao Shell S1 has a 10.1-inch touchscreen built in, two self-charging mics and Wi-Fi, and comes with six months of KaraFun. Ikarao rates the battery at nine hours with the screen on. There's an HDMI port for video on a TV, too. Forbes Vetted named it the best portable karaoke machine.

Forbes' tester did flag the downside of a machine that runs on software: "the software sometimes doesn't want to load and sometimes the internet randomly cuts out." Know that the songs need Wi-Fi, and budget for KaraFun once the free months end. Asked to compare it with the JBL Encore, u/DavidO_Pgh answered on r/karaoke: "If you want a karaoke machine then the Ikarao Shell S1 is superior in every way to the Encore."

Step-up pick

Ikarao Break X2

Premium
Check price on Amazon

The Break X2 is the step-up model, with the same size screen, two wireless mics, 300 watts peak and a six-month subscription included. Ikarao rates it at eight hours with the screen on.

Smaller screen

Ikarao Shell S3

Premium
Check price on Amazon

The Shell S3 shrinks the screen to seven inches and the speaker to 80 watts, with about seven hours of battery. The S3 Pro adds HDMI and 600 songs that play without Wi-Fi, which matters if you're taking it somewhere with bad signal.

04

Best for Lyrics on Your TV

Best for TV lyrics

Singing Machine ISM9011

Premium
Check price on Amazon

Singing on the big screen is what makes karaoke feel like karaoke, and the ISM9011 is built for it, with Singing Machine promising "HDMI Out to display scrolling lyrics on a TV." It also has its own touchscreen, two 2.4 GHz wireless mics, and plays from YouTube, Spotify and Singing Machine's app with no subscription needed. It plugs into the wall, so it's an indoor machine.

TV value pick

KaraFun Party Station

Mid-range
Check price at KaraFun

The KaraFun Party Station is a small box that puts KaraFun on your TV over HDMI, with two wireless mics. There's no speaker, so you play it through the TV or your sound system. It comes with three months of KaraFun Premium and, in KaraFun's own words, "Requires internet connection." It's sold through KaraFun's shop, not Amazon.

For a smart TV

Sound Town SWM15-PROS

Mid-range
Check price at Sound Town

Forbes Vetted's TV pick takes a different approach: two UHF wireless mics and a receiver that, per Forbes, "connects to your TV or projector via HDMI or Bluetooth." You sing along to whatever karaoke apps your smart TV already has, and the TV handles the sound. Sound Town sells it directly. One caution from u/DavidO_Pgh, a longtime r/karaoke reviewer, about singing through home speakers: "they were never designed to handle the peaks when singing." Keep the volume sensible.

05

Best for Kids

For kids, the box matters less than the age range on it. I've given each age range the way the seller or source states it, because they don't always agree.

Best for preschoolers

VTech Kidi Superstar Jr.

Mid-range
Check price on Amazon

A mic on a stand with 10 built-in songs, Bluetooth for playing your own, and four AA batteries. VTech lists it for ages 3 to 5.

Best cheap kids pick

Move2Play Kidz Bop Karaoke Mic

Budget
Check price on Amazon

Forbes Vetted's pick for kids is a Bluetooth mic with a speaker built in and about six hours of battery. Walmart's listing says ages 4 to 10, the Amazon listing says 3 and up, and Forbes says it works for kids as young as two.

Best for big kids

Ikarao Sparkle K1

Premium
Check price on Amazon

A full machine for kids: HDMI to the TV with animated lyric videos, a built-in AR camera, two self-charging mics and 40 games. Ikarao lists it for ages 3 to 12, and offers an optional "Music Pass" on top.

06

Best Budget Machines

Best budget

Tonor K7

Mid-range
Check price at Tonor

The K7 is a smaller Tonor speaker with two wireless AA mics and up to nine hours of battery. You can pair two of them for more sound. I've linked Tonor's own shop because I couldn't confirm Amazon sells this exact model.

Cheapest

Tonor K3

Budget
Check price at Tonor

The cheapest way into home karaoke: a small Bluetooth 5.3 speaker with one or two wireless mics and 4 to 6 hours of battery. Fine for a kid's room or a small apartment. Also linked to Tonor directly.

Buying Guide

Where the lyrics come from now

These days the songs mostly come from an app like KaraFun or Singa, from YouTube, or from your smart TV's karaoke apps. Which? puts it simply: "Any device that has a screen and a Bluetooth connection… can be used to display the lyrics." So a machine without a screen isn't missing anything, as long as you have a phone, tablet or TV to read from.

The Bluetooth delay

Bluetooth is fine for the music and bad for your voice. Audio-Technica puts the common SBC codec at 200 to 300 milliseconds of delay, and aptX at about 120. KaraFun's own advice is "We recommend using a cabled microphone over Bluetooth to avoid any potential delay," and Singa says "Don't connect microphones directly to the TV over Bluetooth." Use the wireless mics that come with the machine rather than pairing a mic to your TV or speaker over Bluetooth.

Which machines need Wi-Fi or a subscription

Bluetooth speakers like the Tonors and the JBL need neither: they play whatever your phone plays. Machines that stream their songs need Wi-Fi, and the KaraFun-based ones need a subscription after the trial: Ikarao includes six months of KaraFun, and the Party Station includes three. The ISM9011 is the exception, playing from YouTube, Spotify and its own app with no subscription. If you'll be somewhere without Wi-Fi, look at the Ikarao S3 Pro, which carries 600 songs offline.

Or buy a speaker and mics separately

A karaoke machine is really a speaker with mic inputs, so you can also build one. The key spec is the number of mic inputs: two means duets without passing a mic. RTINGS' karaoke speaker picks with two inputs are the JBL PartyBox 710, the Sony SRS-XP700 and the smaller JBL PartyBox Club 120, which has "two input ports that can be used for mics, each with its own volume and gain knobs." Their lower mid-range JBL PartyBox 110 and portable Sony ULT FIELD 7 take one mic each, so they suit solo singers.

None of those come with mics, so add a wireless kit like the JBL PartyBox Wireless Mic from my karaoke microphone guide. It's two purchases instead of one, but the speaker keeps playing music long after the party. You don't even need to route the TV through it: u/DavidO_Pgh's simpler suggestion on r/karaoke is to play the YouTube videos on your TV and use the speaker and mics "just for the vocals."

CD+G is legacy

If you find an old machine with a CD tray, it plays CD+G discs: audio plus simple graphics for the lyrics. It's a legacy format now, and lives on mainly as MP3+G download files. Don't buy a machine for it unless you already own a stack of discs.

Karaoke Machines FAQ

Can you connect a karaoke machine to a TV?
Yes, if it has HDMI out or can cast. The Singing Machine ISM9011 sends scrolling lyrics to a TV over HDMI, and the KaraFun Party Station and Sound Town system both use HDMI too. A plain Bluetooth speaker can't put lyrics on your TV.
Do karaoke machines need Wi-Fi?
Bluetooth-only machines like the Tonor K20 don't; you play songs from your phone. Machines that stream songs through an app do, and the KaraFun Party Station needs an internet connection to work at all.
Why is my voice delayed through a Bluetooth karaoke speaker?
Bluetooth adds lag: Audio-Technica puts the common SBC codec at 200 to 300 milliseconds. Use the wireless mics that came with the machine, or a cable, rather than pairing a mic to your TV or speaker over Bluetooth.
Do I need a subscription for a karaoke machine?
Not for Bluetooth machines, which play whatever your phone plays. Machines with a screen usually bundle a trial: six months of KaraFun with Ikarao machines and three months with the KaraFun Party Station.
Do people still use CD+G karaoke discs?
Mostly not. CD+G is a legacy format, and most home karaoke now runs on apps like KaraFun and Singa, YouTube, or a smart TV app. The format lives on mainly as MP3+G download files.
